Project description

The project focuses on supporting the prevention of domestic and gender-based violence. It targets a phenomenon that is a huge problem - domestic violence is transmitted between generations over time within families.

The project not only wants to draw attention to and describe a fact that has been overlooked until now but has the ambition to stop unwanted transmission based on knowledge (data). According to preliminary research among social workers, the transmission of violence is noted in four-fifths of the cases dealt with, which is alarming. Social work has few options to prevent transmission. It only deals with its consequences.

The project will prevent the transmission of violence to the future generation and strengthen the overall resistance of families to the transmission of violence across generations. This will solve many problems that children, parents and grandparents face. It will benefit the generations affected by violence, but it will also relieve the burden of social services. It will prevent transmission in time, thereby reducing financial and other costs.

The project consists of two logical and interconnected parts:

  1. First, it creates knowledge about intergenerational transmission and then intends to interrupt it. The key activity is sociological research, which will be carried out in families. It describes the course of intergenerational transmission of violence and names its causes. Conducting the research exceeds the applicant's capabilities, therefore a research organization from the Czech Republic was invited to guarantee the quality and reliability of the results. The research will provide the basis for an awareness campaign.
  2. Other activities are educational - a campaign, workshops and courses that will reach the public. It is based on the fact that the transmission of violence is caused by adopting patterns, social pressure from the environment and, above all, strong stereotypes handed down in families. That is why educational activities will focus on combating them. The awareness campaign will disrupt the transmission of violence in different types of families and overall strengthen their resilience. Targeting the causes will be effective. The impacts of educational activities will be verified (evaluated). An awareness campaign will be provided by a selected agency with the ability to target certain types of audiences.
