Title of the Programme Culture
General information
Programme area Cultural Entrepreneurship, Cultural Heritage and Cultural Cooperation
Objective of the programme Social and economic development strengthened through cultural cooperation, cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management
Focus of the programme

Programme Culture supports revitalization of the Czech cultural heritage and cultural and creative activities enhancing regional development and social inclusion by almost 900 million Czech crowns. At least 7 open calls will be announced during 2019-2021 in order to support approximately one hundred of cultural projects with implementation period until April 2024.

In the area of cultural heritage the programme supports the preservation and restoration of immovable and movable cultural heritage through larger grants (max. 38,5 million Czech crowns) including development and implementation of strategies for long-term use. The second open call will be opened for smaller projects (max. 6,6 million Czech crowns) focusing exclusively on value creation and innovative use of the cultural heritage in adequate technical condition.

Within the area of contemporary art at least two open calls supporting high quality and original creative works and their presentation are planned. The programme will support performing arts (theatre, dance and physical theatre, new circus, classical and contemporary music), visual arts (including architecture and design traditional and contemporary crafts) and literature. The open calls support the projects with a grant 1,2 - 5,3 million Czech crowns.

Based on the stakeholder consultation focusing on current needs of the cultural sector in the Czech Republic the Programme newly supports the area of art criticism and the area of capacity building of umbrella associations, networks and platforms. At least one open call will be announced for each area with grant support 257 000 - 1,2 million Czech crowns.

Specific focus of the Programme

The Czech Republic has been long facing several issues related to human rights. For example, the UN has recommended that the integration of Roma citizens into society should be improved, and measures should be taken to combat racism and xenophobia. The projects in the area of contemporary arts will accentuate support to the cultural production of minorities including Roma and address the issue of inclusion including accessing of culture to minorities (e.g. Roma minority). Promotion of cultural heritage of minorities including Roma cultural heritage and inclusive activities will be accentuated in related open calls and directly supported through the predefined project (Building of a memorial to the victims of the Roma holocaust in Lety). All open calls will accentuate capacity building, cultural entrepreneurship and bilateral cooperation with donor states.
