Area of Activities

The Lobkowicz Collections o.p.s., is a non-profit cultural and education organisation which manages the wide-ranging Lobkowicz Collections and already runs two fine arts museums housed in historical buildings in Prague and Central Bohemia. An unique opportunity has arisen for us to create a new museum and music academy in the house where renowned Czech composer Antonín Dvořák was born, in the village of Nelahozeves, 20km north of Prague. Our aim is to transform the Dvořák’s birth house, which is badly in need of attention, into a world-class non-profit museum.

Reflecting the latest in museum displays and technology, the exhibit would orchestrate a journey back to the time of Dvořák, exploring the early musical development of a genius. Education programs appealing to young people and diverse audiences would create lively ways to engage with the story of Dvořák and musical composition. The Dvořák House Music Academy would attract young musicians from all over the world to the music training program, as well as to the atmospheric summer schools and masterclasses.

Students would have the opportunity to live, study and practice in the very environment where Dvořák himself grew up.

Project Idea

We plan to transform Dvořák’s birth house in the town of Nelahozeves, 20km outside Prague, into an international museum dedicated to the early career and musical development of this great composer. A new Music Academy will support young musicians to develop their talents through courses, masterclasses, summer schools and musical exchanges. We are searching for partnerships with cultural institutions who have addressed similar challenges: • Restoration and refurbishment of historical buildings • Creating innovative and interactive exhibition displays – ideally in the field of “personality museums” or “composer museums” • Experience of music training programs (courses, summer schools and master classes) • Reanimation of cultural and community life in rural areas by creating a new cultural destination, events, activities and the re-design of public spaces
