Objective of the Project

The applicant (Železniční společnost Tanvald – Railway Company Tanvald, a socially benefical company) is seeking to save and protect railroad monuments, particularly the unique rack railway Tanvald – Desná – Kořenov – Harrachov and to enlist it among the regional cultural heritage sites and in tourist offer. Saving of the buildings that are part of the rack railroad is another priority. The new goal is to build out of ruins and reconstruct the heating plant at a railway station. The listed cultural monument is currently on the verge of a total destruction. The Railway Company Tanvald has attempted at conserving the existing status so that the site is not totally destroyed and burglarized. Project documentation has been worked out for the reconstruction of the building according to its original look and received a permit to build in 2009. This year the building permit has been prolonged until 31 December 2015. The company had restorer´ s plans worked out for the historical steam engine 422.062 and the historical passenger car Ci 4-2223, which it had loaned from the Czech Railways. The project objective is to build a living interactive museum in the former heating plant for broad target groups (children, youth, families with children, specific interest groups) with an interest in an active holiday and experience. The unique space will house a unique museum collection of historical railway cars, which will be reconstructed as part of this project, as well as cars owned by the Railway Company Tanvald (the registered grouping of Zubačka) which—thanks to the work of volunteers—are in an excellent technical condition and ride safely. The following complete collection will be deposited in the live railway museum: 1.Historical steam engine 422.062 from 1913 along with a wooden historical passenger car Ci 4-2223 from 1916. 2. Cogwheel diesel engines T 426.001 and T 426.003, historical diesel engine T 435.0111, and historical diesel engine T 211.037 and the motorcar M 240.056. All of them come from the 1960s. Thanks to the project a unique museum will come into being in the newly reconstructed space with thematic collections of engines and cars, which presents in a fresh way the cultural heritage of our predecessors. The living museum will let visitors see the inside of the cars, show how to care for them and present their technical excellence. The cars will be mobile and it´ll be possible to ride in them during promotional events or nostalgic rides. The living museum will enable a safe and dignified deposit of movable cultural heritage, i.e. of listed historical cars, which deserve the care. With its complexity and presentation the living museum will open the cultural heritage and technical perfection of our predecessors to general public. The company will present the project outcomes – the complete museum collections – with the help of nostalgic rides. The nostalgic rides will take place several times a year on the Tanvald-Desná-Kořenov and Harrachov track. Trips to Szklarska Poreba in Poland are under negotiations. Also various festive Museum Days on the Railroad and open-air events when the cars will hit the rails to present themselves and celebrate the historical perfection of our predecessors. The activities present to a big amount of people the cultural heritage in a unique and innovative way thus introducing the memory of several nations living together in an industrialised cultural landscape.
