|Objective of the Project||
As a part of an extensive renovation of the building MFF UK (=Faculty of Matematics and Physics), the immovable cultural monument, which is part of the historical reserve protected by UNESCO, the torso of the Romanesque St. Wenceslas rotunda from the 10th to 11th century with preserved Romanesque extremely valuable fragment of ceramic tiles in the original historic store was found in 2004-2005. It is a completely unique finding even in global terms. The aim of the project is to preserve this cultural heritage, and its restoration and to make it available to the public. Given the current state and ongoing degradation of the monument there is a risk of its destruction (strongly damaged fragment of the unique structure with rare elements is in disrepair). Rescue works (full restoration, conservation and climate protection treatment) need to be done urgently and at the same time construction works shall be done in the premises so that this unique monument can be made available to the public. In the area of the monument, the first part of the archaeological survey, basic consolidation, acute treatment of found historic structures and necessary construction works required for the preservation of historical landscape were carried out in previous years. The basic climatic protection required for the preservation of the monuments was made. The main activities of the project aimed at the monument salvation include restoration, archaeological and construction works, including climate protection. The added value of the project consists in the use of innovative practices; its focus will also create a platform for an interdisciplinary cooperation and raising the skills and qualification both of university students (esp. in the fields of restoration and archeology) and all participating experts; the students will have the opportunity to improve skills through school practice and student works. The proposed project uses traditional techniques and technologies, which were used at the monument creation including traditional materials while allowing the use of innovative practices that will contribute to enhancing the quality of project results.
