Objective of the Project

IFF Ostrava Kamera Oko is an international film festival dedicated to the art of cinematography. For its 7th edition in September/October 2015, we would like to prepare a special program focused on Norwegian cinematography.

Scandinavian cinema is highly appreciated by the Czech audience. We would like to draw attention to the specificities of the light in Norway (and Scandinavia) and to how this light influences the work of Norwegian cinematographers. We would like to offer the Czech audience a unique opportunity to see a selection of contemporary Norwegian films accompanied by debates, workshops and meetings with important Norwegian cinematographers of today.

On the other hand, it will also be an opportunity to present Ostrava and the Czech Republic to cinematographers as a land of long cinematic tradition and to facilitate cooperation between professional organisations and schools from Norway and the Czech Republic. Our partner for this project is Norwegian Cinematographers Association (FNF), FNF will celebrate 20th anniversary in 2015.

The subprogram will be an integral part of OKO 2015 but will have its own budget for promotion and its own curators and a production manager. The program will consist of three parts.

The screening part of the program will consist of ca. 7-8 feature films and a selection of short films.

We would like to invite three Norwegian cinematographers to Ostrava - one will sit on the main Competition jury, one will be a member of the Short films competition jury and one will hold a one day workshop with Czech cinematography students from FAMU. All of the invited cinematographers will show their films at the festival and will have moderated debates with the audience about their work.

The third part of the project is a contest for young Norwegian cinematographers. The contest will be open for all cinematographers under 30. Every cinematographer will be able to submit one short film he/she has made in the last 3 years. A selection of the submitted films will be screened at the festival. Czech jury (composed of ACK members) will select three winners who will be invited to the festival (travel and accommodation expenses covered). They will have an opportunity to shoot images in the unique industrial site of Dolni Vitkovice with the help of Czech film students from FAMU.

All Norwegian guests will also have an opportunity to visit the famous film ateliers Barrandov Studios and the FAMU film school in Prague. The aim of this project is to present contemporary Norwegian films and cinematographers to the Czech audience and to facilitate a dialogue between Czech and Norwegian cinematographers.

We would like to promote cultural diversity and heritage of each country and to be a platform for sharing ideas and experiences.
