Objective of the Project

The project activities focused on education in the area of biodiversity are expected to increase awareness and education level in the area of biodiversity and ecosystem services, including awareness and education related to biodiversity and climate change and economic assessment of ecosystems.

Project outputs will include newly prepared and implemented programmes in environmental education. The purpose of the project is harmonic combination of protection and sparing use of natural resources and upbringing of the general public to respect for all functions of forest ecosystems. The project emphasizes balance of all the main aspects of the addressed area and prepares practical examples to increase awareness of the target groups on complexity of natural processes.

The project will extend public awareness in the area of biodiversity and instruments and conditions for its maintenance, which will fulfil the objectives of the basic strategic documents in this area. The expected outcomes of the project include improved awareness of the target groups in the area of biodiversity and high-standard educational programmes to be further used by the project centres.

The project will also enhance cooperation between the individual research centres, their mutual experience exchange, methodology share and overall improvement of quality of education. The most significant impact on the target groups will be represented by the educational activities organised in the context of the project. Joint efforts of both sites will result in an educational campaign focused on the general public. The educational campaign will extend education of students of the Mendel University who will subsequently be capable of independent work with the public. This activity will also include an extensive campaign at the Silva regina 2016 trade fair. The activity targeted at elementary school pupils will be based on organisation of two residential programmes of environmental education and one on-day educational programme for elementary school pupils. Every residential project will be tested by 4 pilot runs and the one-day programme by 3 trial runs. All prepared educational programmes will fully comply with the valid framework educational programme for elementary schools and will help elementary school teachers in implementation of its expected outcomes.

Public education will be provided via a system of interpretative infrastructure on the partner site and organisation of 3 thematic educational events for the public.

The infrastructure system will include an information table - map of the premises, 5 information tables, a table by the orchard and wooden plates with fruit tree variety descriptions. A separate activity within the project will support independent creative work of students. The activity will result in high-standard final theses of the students and a number of materials on the effect of the monitored factors on environment diversity, which the students will prepare as outputs of their partial involvement in the project.

These outputs will further be used in information materials for public education and a model locality will be selected for a thematic excursion for elementary school pupils in the length of several days.

The partner site will be extended with a classroom by the residential section of the Jezírko site. The classroom will be broadly used for various educational activities - mainly for teaching the classes taking part in the residential programmes and for educational events for the public. Further uses of the Jezírko centre will include courses for teachers and one-day educational programmes as needed.
