Objective of the Project

Under addressing the project one of the principle activities of the Child Injury Prevention Centre will be established at the University Hospital of Brno. It will be the interactive programme that should teach more closely children and adults around them about injury risks. Brno University Hospital with its Clinic of Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics and Trauma (CPSOT) represents one of the largest Paediatric Trauma Centre treating children with injuries of all types and severity. Due to the fact that the most effective primary prevention is a direct meeting with the injury and the people who have experienced it, the CPSOT will redevelop its premises and prepare a methodical programme so that various groups of children could visit the "actions venue" to see the Trauma Division premises and the injured patient journey from his/her admission to his/her discharge and learn that the injury is not just something that is spoken in the media and at school, but involves real human (child) cases and stories. The programme will include a tour of the premises, meetings with injured children and their parents, examples of medical procedures and demonstrations of injury mechanisms. At the end a summary will be made outlining the risks monitored in children of their age and with their regular activities and the children will be made aware of them. Other users -schools and kindergartens will get vaccinated and different programme levels will be created for them depending on age and specific requirements, the same programmes will be prepared for parents, teachers and educators and sports managers. Separately and in collaboration with the traffic police we will process the issue of traffic accidents that cause the most serious injuries, these programmes will include police statistics, video clips and simulations and discussions with different units of the Integrated Rescue System. All the programmes will have a text output in the form of methodologies that will be processed universally for different groups of injuries (home, school, traffic, sports, intentional injuries) and distributed to the respective target places (homes, schools, sports facilities). Within the secondary injury prevention, programmes will be prepared focusing on teaching first aid in case of injury. Children and adults will be able to experience how to deal with the most common injuries because their timely intervention can also minimize the damage to human body caused by the injury. The programmes will differ pursuant to the age and type of participants and will also be organized in the premises of the Child Trauma Centre with all the original tools and professional supervision. Within the tertiary prevention, one programme will be prepared focusing on children after severe injuries. Based on the injury database, children or already adults will be sought who had a similar accident in the past and now have already been integrated back into community and returned to their normal life activities. Howsoever affected the injury their life, for the currently injured children and their parents they will be an example and psychological support. In this case it is calculated rather on an individual programme for each patient. Given the high level of child injury prevention in Norway and Sweden, some expenditure is also planned for visiting some institutions over there and seeing their activities. The trip is expected to bring an inspiration for the preparation of the programme and methodologies for individual preventive measures.
