Project description:

The multi-genre and interdisciplinary project will contribute to professional growth of Czech and Icelandic musicians who will co-produce a music record which will be released digitally. Each song will reflect and be inspired by a locality in the CR and Iceland affected by climate change and will be composed in those localities while using field recording as a method best suitable to capture the sound of an environment. For each composition the artists will team up with scientists, researchers and members of local communities to identify environmental, cultural and social challenges emerging in selected localities, which have become dysfunctional as a result of human activity. Based on research and informative excursions, the environmentally, socially, economically, or culturally substandard and depleted localities will inspire music and sound improvisations, which will lay foundations for studio recordings, and give the local communities an impulse to further interact with the localities. As a result of the project a better understanding of countryside ecosystems will be fostered among the locals and general public by means of art works and a large-scale media campaign.

The album will be presented live at concerts and will be accompanied by complementary outcomes (website, podcasts, music video, visuals, film).

By interconnecting the art world with the social perspective, the project will contribute to professional development of both Czech and Icelandic musicians. The project partnership is based not only on a unique collaborative objective with a social impact but also on innovative approaches to the music production and distribution, promotion, and audience activation.

The project will allow the artists to grow their audience and renown, highlight a new model for interdisciplinary contemporary art creation, and cultivate the music industry by sharing the know-how in 2 workshops (focusing on technical skills and creative production and management).
