Objective of the Project

The project will develop a methodology based on metal isotope fingerprinting using various environmental samples, such as snow samples, lichens and mosses, soil profiles and peat cores coupled with microbial analyses and focuses on two polluted areas in Norway and the Czech Republic, more precisely the Barents region and in the Upper Silesian region. The time- and area-dependent evolution of the pollution will be assessed using the analyses of “non-traditional” (Ni, Cd, Cu) and “traditional” (Pb) isotope systems. In addition, new methods using soil microbial communities as indicators of metal pollution will be used.
